School Community Profile:
North Vermillion Community School Corporation is located on the west side Indiana Highway 63 just north of Cayuga, approximately one mile north of Indiana 234. District boundaries extend from the Illinois-Indiana border on the west to the Wabash River on the east and US 136 in the north to the south side of the Newport Depot.

Prior to the fall of 1964 the communities of Cayuga, Newport and Perrysville each had their own high schools. North Vermillion High School officially opened its doors in the fall of 1964 and held its first graduation ceremonies in the spring for the Class of 1965. During the mid 1970’s the perimeter rooms were added to make room for the junior high in with the senior high. Later, beginning in the fall of 1992, construction was begun on a new consolidated elementary school to replace the older elementary facilities in the communities of Cayuga, Newport and Perrysville. Then, with construction completed, North Vermillion Elementary School opened its doors in August 1993 for all kindergarten through grade 6 students in the North Vermillion school district.

Our campus now consists of one elementary school housing grades Pre-K through 6 with Kindergarten being an all day, every day program, one junior-senior high school housing grades 7-12, and one administrative office located on one 40+ acre plot. The corporation serves the townships of Eugene, Highland and Vermillion in the northern part of Vermillion County. The North Vermillion School Corporation participates in a 9 corporation cooperative for special needs students called the West Central Indiana Special Services Cooperative centered out of Crawfordsville. In addition to the special services cooperative, North Vermillion is part of the 5 corporation vocational cooperative called the Parke-Vermillion Education and Vocational Interlocal plus North Vermillion jointly operates an opportunity school program for junior and senior high students with the South Vermillion School Corporation at a facility at Hillsdale along US Highway 36 just one mile east of Indiana Highway 63.

The rural communities served by North Vermillion Junior/Senior High School consist of several small towns. Cayuga, Dana, Newport, Perrysville, Eugene, Gessie, Quaker and Rileysburg are listed in descending order of population with Cayuga being most populous at just above one thousand citizens and with Newport serving as county seat. The North Vermillion schools serve as the main center for educational, recreational, leisure, civic, and other social activities for these communities.
